JobSpecific PS Font Assigner v2.1

This native 32-bit and 16-bit DTP tool reads and writes full font references to and from any PostScript™ printer driver listed in your Win.ini file. This means all your PostScript fonts are available for the screen via Adobe Type Manager (ATM) 3.0x or ATM 4.x while JobSpecific adds and subtracts PS font references for the printer driver. This keeps your Win.ini file size small.

Why? Ini files in Windows can only grow to 64K in size before the information becomes corrupted. The ATM.ini file can hold up to around 900 font references while your Win.ini file must hold the same type of references for PostScript fonts plus other information about your system. It can get awfully crowded in there. JobSpecific is also smart enough never to allow your Win.ini to grow beyond 64K.

If you have ever looked at the PostScript font references in your Win.ini file you have only seen the fonts' file names. What the heck is 0428a___.pfm? JobSpecific lists it for you as FrizQuadrata BT. Is there any other way to decide what you want listed? And if you're not sure what it looks like, JobSpecific will display a sample for you on the screen. Simply hold down the right mouse button to look and release when your done. Or continue to hold down the right mouse button as you scroll down the font list.

Whenever JobSpecific saves or deletes fonts from your Win.ini file, it automatically and immediately informs Windows of the font changes so you do not have to reboot Windows. Note: your actual font files are never touched, only their references. Everytime the program starts it gets the latest list of fonts from the ATM.ini file.

By the way, the program's interface is extremely friendly and easy to grasp right away.

Most importantly JobSpecific has the ability to create unlimited separate font list files (using long file names). This way you can save your font lists for specific jobs (thus the title JobSpecific). These you can open, save, and annotate with any text editor (such as Notepad). JobSpecific intelligently allows you to optionally merge your font reference lists. This means that there will never be duplicate font references. You can also drag-drop these font lists from Windows Explorer or Program Manager directly into JobSpecific. And last but not least you may print them from the program as well.

Fully functional shareware is available for download here at this site. It includes setup and uninstall utilities plus detailed online help, menus and toolbar tool tips available in both English and Spanish (selectable through the preference menu). This software was created by a professional designer who actually knows the needs of designers and regularly uses the product himself.
